A Viagra-based treatment for erectile dysfunction, known as Viagra, is now available in the UK.
But will it actually work?
Dr Chris Patten, clinical professor at the University of Southampton said the drug may not work if you take it for a long time, because you’re already stressed out.
The treatment can cause a mild side effect such as feeling unwell and feeling sick.
A spokesman for the Department of Health said the medicine was being developed with “an emphasis on the potential of increasing efficacy”.
“In the meantime, the medical community is advising doctors that this is not the best choice for people with a history of cardiovascular issues or those with severe underlying conditions,” Dr Patten said.
A similar treatment for high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction, known as Levitra, was introduced last year but has yet to be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Viagra, also known by the brand name Revatio, was developed as an alternative to Viagra, which is used by millions of men in the UK and other countries.
But it is the UK’s first treatment for erectile dysfunction - the treatment of choice for men over 40 - that has been tested in the UK.

It works by increasing blood flow to the penis when a man is sexually aroused.
It’s not for everyone, so doctors may prescribe Viagra or Revatio only if the underlying medical condition is causing the problem.
“You shouldn’t take Viagra, as it may not be suitable for you or for someone else. But the drug is a good option for men with a history of cardiovascular issues and those with serious underlying conditions,” Dr Patten said.
The medicine will be taken as a tablet or an injection into a vein, he said.
“It is not recommended for people who have recently had an operation.”
It will need to be swallowed with plenty of water.
The drug is not available for use in children under 18.
Viagra is being developed by Pfizer, which is testing it for safety in children.Patten said there was a “limited evidence” that it would be effective for a large number of men.
The company, based in London, has not yet released a decision on whether or not to sell the treatment.
The company has also not yet announced whether it will sell the medicine in the UK.
“The decision to sell Viagra in the UK is based on a very small number of people,” Dr Patten said.
He said the company wanted to see the treatment in the UK for all men.
“We can’t comment on the decision to sell the Viagra in the UK, and we have already had a discussion with the patient about the potential benefits and risks of treatment,” he said.
Sildenafil citrate, commonly known by the brand name, is a prescription-only medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It works by improving blood flow to the penis, helping to achieve and maintain an erection during sexual activity.
Sildenafil is available in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg strengths.
